High Performance Filler for elastomers
Elastomers are form-solid but elastically deformable polymers, e.g. fluoroelastomers or silicones. These polymers are used wherever the high elasticity of the end product is important, such as in sealing rings, tires, cables, hoses, conveyor belts, floor coverings and in medical technology. Our fillers have a considerably positive influence on the mechanical properties (Shore hardness, modulus of elasticity, tensile strength, etc.) but also on the electrical properties (dielectric strength). In addition, they allow a very good colorability of the elastomer.
Fluoroelastomer applications with TREMIN®
Fluoroelastomers are highly specialized materials for the most demanding applications in the field of engine and mechanical engineering as well as in chemical plant engineering. They make seals resistant to different chemicals and suitable for high temperature applications. The short-needled, silane–coated wollastonite flour TREMIN® 283 has been used for many years successfully as functional fillers in fluoroelastomers. Apart from the good reinforcing properties TREMIN® 283 provides also the advantage of coloured bright mixtures and is able to adjust the hardness.
The fluoroelastomers reinforced by TREMIN® 283 are characterized by the following properties:
- Outstanding dimensional stability
- High tear resistance
- High tensile strength
- Good colorability
CHINAFILL in Rubber applications
Rubber is an integral part of our everyday life as an extremely flexible material. Rubber is vulcanized natural or synthetic material e.g. styrene-butadiene (SBR), nitrile-butadiene (NBR) or ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM). The applications for rubber polymers are always where the elasticity is of particular importants e.g. in tires, flooring, hoses, cables and conveyor belts or various household products.
As chemically inert fillers, the platelet-shaped kaolin is very weather resistant. Coarser kaolin types so called “soft clays” show a reinforcing effect in rubber. The fine kaolin types (“hard clays”) even have a very pronounced reinforcing effect. In addition, these kaolins increase tensile strength as well as tear resistance and the modulus of elasticity. Furthermore the bright CHINAFILL kaolins allow the production of easy-to-dye products. In cables, kaolin also causes an increase of the insulation properties. The rubber plastics reinforced by CHINAFILL are characterized by the following properties:
- Excellent tensile strength
- High tear resistance
- Increased E-Modulus
- Very good to dye
- Improved electrical insulation
SIKRON® and SILBOND® successful in silicone
Silicone is an elastomer with unique properties: It is extremely elastic, very heat resistant, hydrophobic and comes with a high dielectric strength. In contrast to rubber, silicones maintain their properties over a large temperature range. Therefore, silicones are used for thermally stressed seals, insulations and plastics mouldings. Anyhow without these polymers medical technology, electronic industry and household applicances are impossible to imagine. In contrast to the needle-shaped wollastonite and platelet-shaped kaolin, silica and cristobalite are inert and due to their structure rather round and compact. In addition to the untreated types of the SIKRON® family the surface-treated SILBOND®-types are also available.
For seals and cables mainly silica is used, in particular the grade SIKRON® SF 600 and/or the coated types SILBOND® 600 TST and SILBOND® 600 RST. The treatment of the filler with trimethylsilane (-RST) provides a low viscosity during processing of the silicone. By using this filler the electrical and mechanical properties of the silicone part can be specifically influenced (e.g. increase of the electrical insulation behavior).
